Showing the Way
A new company initiative to 'limit' vehicle speed on all new vehicles with this technology provides a reduction in the companies environment footprint as well as many other benefits.
New vehicle technology now allows the 'limiting' of vehicle speed. Over recent months new 700 series Hino vehicles in the HIggins fleet have had their speed mechanically 'limited' to 95kph via this new technology. "By limiting the speed there is greater fuel economy through lower fuel consumption which brings with it less environmental emissions" reports Shane Higgins.
Fuel savings of up to 10% can be achieved over non speed limited vehicles. As well as that driver fatigue is reduced as drivers are less tired when driving at lower speeds. From a vehicle standpoint there is less wear and tear on the vehicles. Higgins will continue this initiative on all new vehicles coming in the fleet with this technology.
