Manukau Harbour Crossing to finish ahead of schedule
The Manukau Harbour Crossing project on Auckland's Southwestern Motorway will be complete and open seven months ahead of schedule in August 2010.
Transport Minister Stephen Joyce announced the news on the 25 February 2010. He paid tribute to the hard work and great team work on the project site by NZTA and its partners Higgins, Fletchers and Beca which is delivering the Bridge ahead of schedule. The project began in February 2008. The early finish date means the Project will be well and truely complete before the start of the Rugby World cup in 2011.
Higgins is currently involved in getting the final touches ready so that surfacing can commence on the job. The team is focused on closing out work and finishing the job well.
Final surfacing commenced in February 2010 and will run through to April. The May to August months will see prelevelling work undertaken on the new Mangere Bridge, followed by tie in work to ensure the duplicate lanes are fully utilised.

Enviro-Mark Gold Certification
Higgins Contractors Bay of Plenty have just been awarded the Enviro-Mark Golf Certification
The Enviro-Mark certification programme helps an organisation develop and implement an Environmental Management System and then certifies the organisation after an independent audit for these efforts. Higgins were invited by the Tauranga City Council to take part in the two year programme. The programme is an initiative of the Council and Landcare Research. The programme in Higgins Bay of Plenty has helped to drive initiatives to reduce waste and conserve water and energy.
Alliance Announcement
The NZ Transport Agency (NZTA) has selected a consortium to deliver the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway. Higgins Group, Fletcher Construction, Beca Planning and Infrastructure join NZTA to form the MacKays to Peka Peka Expressway Alliance.... Read more
