Manukau Harbour Crossing finishes ahead of schedule

The Manukau Harbour Crossing project on Auckland's Southwestern Motorway is now complete, opening seven months ahead of schedule in August 2010.

With the project completed early, NZTA awarded the Alliance an extension to the project to upgrade the Walmsley Road on ramp.  In typical fashion, the Alliance is hoping to complete this in seven months instead of the nine month schedule - not only to complete the job ahead of schedule but to avoid surfacing in the wet season.  The project involves a kilometre of new pavement; realigning and lengthening the on ramp; adding a third southbound lane; and building a barrier next to Walmsley Road to stop on ramp traffic from crossing three lanes over a 300m length to get to the airport.
