Project Takitini - RNZAF Ohakea Base

Project Takitini was a NZ Defence Force project to make extensive improvements to the infrastructure of the RNZAF Base at Ohakea. In November 2011, Higgins Contractors were awarded the Minister of Defence Award of Excellence for their involvement in this project.

Higgins Role

Higgins were contracted in the Stage 1 to build the support network of civil works services and roading for the new Airforce Helicopter squadron facilities.  In the second Stage, Higgins were contracted to manage the construction of the heavy duty pavement which links the existing taxiways for the 3 squadron helicopter hanger.  The pavement constructed involved extensive Asphaltic concrete.  Higgins Contractors Palmerston North were contracted to Ebert Construction for the civil works for the new helicopter hanger.  Higgins Concrete and Higgins Aggregates manufactured and supplied significant product to site.
