Higgins Waikato are offering an annual engineering scholarship to Year 13 students in the Waikato region.
The scholarship will fund study at the Waikato Institute of Technology and Higgins will provide work experience throughout the recipients's period of study. On completion of the qualification, the winner is guaranteed a cadetship at Higgins, where they will be taught the trade from the ground up.
Higgins Waikato Manager Glenn Carson says funding this scholarship is the company's way of supporting the industry. "There is significant road and infrastructure construction planned for the next 10 years in Waikato, including the work on the Waikato Expressway which is one of the Government's Roads of National Significance (RoNS)," says Glenn. "The influx of work in the industry is creating a lot of opportunities for young people. This Higgins scholarship is our way of being proactive, and ensuring there are skilled, qualified peole to manage this workload".
Glenn says the Higgins scholarship will fund course fees for either a Bachelor of Engineering Technology or the New Zealand Diploma in Engineering. The recipient of the scholarship is someone Higgins will really be investing in. We're looking for someone who has a positive attitude, is reasonably strong in maths and the sciences, and can communicate effectively.
