Kopane Bridge Project

Kopane Bridge Project wins Roading New Zealand Excellence Award in the category ‘Minor Road Project’.

Judges said "Utilising proven management, planning, environment, health, safety and stakeholder engagement systems, the Higgins/Horizons team came away with a result which delighted the local community and benefited the wider region."

In 2004, the Kopane community was devastated by flooding.  The objective for the Higgins/Horizons team was to replace the bridge and its approach roads to provide an enhanced level of protection against future flooding for the Kopane community.

Over the course of construction, a total of 100,000m3 of material was cut and filled to form the road subgrade.  Completed in December 2012 with an accelerated 52 week construction programme, Kopane Bridge was delivered under budget and three months ahead of budget.
