Manukau Harbour Crossing (MHX)

The Manukau Harbour Crossing Project was delivered within a alliance delivery model.

Project Overview

Manukau Harbour Crossing is a 'Road of National Significance' and a key link in the Auckland transport and infrastructure network.  The project was to deliver safer, quicker and easier travel on SH20 across the Manukau Harbour between Mangere and Onehunga.   The project involved upgrading an existing two lane motorway to three lanes over a newly constructed 644m long Mangere Bridge.  MHX improved public transport connectivity by providing bus shoulder lanes and provisioned for a future rail link along the route.  Three and a half kilometres of pedestrian and cycle routes and two kilometres of major water-main infrastructure were also constructed.   This Project completes the Western Ring Route Link.

The project was awarded the Alliancing Association of Australasia's Excellence Award in 2010 and the Roading New Zealand - Z Energy Excellence Award for a Major Road Project.
